How long do dried and preserved flowers last?
Our dried and preserved flowers stay beautiful for a year or more, and often much longer. Here's what helps them last, and what wears them out.
The short answer
Flor Keeps dried and preserved flowers stay beautiful for a year or more, and plenty of customers tell us theirs still look great years later. A fresh bouquet lasts about 5 to 7 days. How long yours lasts comes down to where it lives: indoors, out of direct sun, and away from steam.

A year is typical, not a deadline.
Our arrangements don't wilt, droop or brown the way fresh flowers do, because there is nothing left in them to wilt. Over time the color softens slowly instead of fading overnight, so a two-year-old bouquet still looks like a bouquet, not a science project. It's the reason our bestsellers end up on mantels for years.
Why do preserved flowers outlast fresh ones?
A fresh bouquet is still alive when it arrives. It keeps drinking, then it runs out of time, usually within a week.
Ours start the same way, as real flowers grown in soil and cut on the day they look their very best. Then the water is taken out slowly, so the petals keep their shape, and plant-based, non-toxic ingredients take its place to hold the color and keep the petals soft. With no water inside, there is nothing to rot, wilt or brown. Preserved 101 walks through every step.
What helps them last, and what wears them out?
Three things matter most: sun, steam and the great outdoors. Here is everything a bouquet might meet, and what to do about it.
| What it meets | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Direct sunlight | Sun is the one thing that fades color. | A few feet back from a bright window is fine. A sunny sill is not. |
| Steam and humidity | Petals soften and droop. | Skip the bathroom and the kitchen window over the sink. |
| A porch, a patio or a hot car | Heat and weather can undo a year of preservation in a week. | Keep them indoors. Any room works. |
| Water | Water damages preserved petals. | Never water them, and never wipe them with a damp cloth. |
| Dust | A dusty bouquet looks tired. | Use a hairdryer on cool, held well back, or a soft brush. |
| Handling | Preserved stems are strong but not bendy. | Move the whole arrangement by its base, not by the blooms. |

Is there a difference between dried and preserved?
Yes, and every Flor Keeps arrangement is both. Drying takes the water out, so there is nothing left to wilt. Preserving puts plant-based ingredients back in, so the petals stay soft and the color holds. That is why our preserved roses still feel soft to the touch a year later.
What happens after the first year?
Nothing dramatic, which is the whole point. The color mellows slowly, and an arrangement kept out of the sun and steam keeps its shape. Plenty of customers tell us theirs still look beautiful after several years. When you do swap it out, it will be because you want a new look, not because the old one gave up.
How do they compare with a fresh bouquet?

Here are the questions people ask us most.
Do preserved flowers last forever?
Not forever, but for a long time. Ours stay beautiful for a year or more, and many last for years when they live indoors and out of direct sun.
Do preserved flowers need water?
No, never. Water damages preserved petals, which makes them about as low-maintenance as a houseplant gets, because there is no maintenance.
Will the color fade?
Only in direct sun. Away from a sunny window, the color softens slowly over the years instead of fading all at once.
Can they live outside or on a porch?
Not for long. Heat, humidity and sun can undo a year of preservation in a week, so they are happiest inside, in any room.
How long do preserved roses last?
The same as the rest of our flowers: a year or more. A rose under a glass dome also stays free of dust, which keeps it looking new with zero effort.
Are they real flowers?
Yes! Every stem is a real flower, grown in soil and cut at its best, then dried and preserved so you can enjoy it for a year or more.
